‘Very important that NFL players STAND tomorrow’

After spending a day tweeting nearly two dozen times about Puerto Rico, President Trump refocused his Twitter account on last weekend’s big story: NFL national anthem kneelers.

“Very important that NFL players STAND tomorrow, and always, for the playing of our National Anthem. Respect our Flag and our Country!”, Trump tweeted early Saturday evening, before returning to his prior engagement of slamming “fake news” outlets for their coverage of hurricane relief efforts.

Last weekend more than 200 NFL players kneeled or demonstrated in some other form or fashion in an unprecedented show of protest and unity during the NFL’s third week of the season after Trump called on NFL team owners to fire players who kneel during the national anthem.

That happened after Trump said at a rally in Alabama: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired. He’s fired.”

Throughout the week Trump continued to wage a war of words against the NFL and its players, taunting the league over ratings and praising the Dallas Cowboys, who before their game on Monday night knelt before the national anthem in a moment of silence before standing, arms locked, when the song began.

“The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger… But while Dallas dropped to its knees as a team, they all stood up for our National Anthem,” Trump said. “Big progress being made-we all love our country!”

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began the kneeling trend last season when he took a knee during the national anthem to protest the treatment of African Americans and other minorities in the U.S.
