The Week 5 Amway Coaches Poll was released by USA Today on Sunday. Four SEC teams were listed in the Top 25 after the fifth full weekend of the 2017 football season.

The league dropped from six teams in the poll heading into the weekend, with both Mississippi State and LSU falling out of the Top 25 after conference losses.

Alabama remained the SEC’s top team following a dominating 66-3 win against Ole Miss at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide received all 58 first-place votes cast, making them a clear choice as college football’s top team.

Georgia turned in perhaps the conference’s best performance of the weekend, flashing brilliance in all facets of the game during a 41-0 road victory at Tennessee. As a result, Georgia moved up two spots in the rankings from No. 8 to No. 6. USC fell from No. 5 after a loss to Washington State and the Bulldogs slipped past 4-0 Michigan for the week.

For as good as the Bulldogs looked, Butch Jones’ Vols squad looked equally as bad. Tennessee is no longer among those receiving votes.

Auburn continued to impress in conference play with a blowout win against Mississippi State. The Tigers moved up two spots in the poll, moving from No. 15 to No. 13.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, dropped out of the Top 25 after their second consecutive loss in SEC play.

Florida took care of business at home against Vanderbilt with a 31-17 victory, but the Gators did lose starting QB Luke Del Rio for the season. The Gators held steady at No. 20 in the rankings.

LSU turned in the most embarrassing performance of the weekend, dropping a night game in Death Valley to Sun Belt opponent Troy. As a result, Ed Orgeron’s Tigers also dropped out of the rankings this week. Troy received nine votes following the upset victory.

Texas A&M, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Arkansas were among the SEC teams not ranked but still receiving votes in the poll.

COACHES POLL HISTORY: PRESEASON | WEEK 1  | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4

The Coaches Poll, which is comprised of the votes of 65 FBS head coaches, has been around since 1950. In the past, it served as a part of a formula to determine BCS rankings. But with the use of a College Football Playoff selection committee in place to determine the four teams that advance at the end of the season, it no longer plays a direct role in determining college football’s national champion.

The 2017 preseason Coaches Poll placed the Crimson Tide as the top SEC team at No. 1, LSU at No. 12, Auburn No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Florida at No. 16 and Tennessee at No. 24.
